All chemical products such as dyes, finishing agents and adhesives used to manufacture textile, apparel and footwear products often contain multiple ingredients and exhibit many different environmental profiles.
Today’s consumer along with government agencies and NGO’s are demanding supply chain transparency. Manufacturers and retailers are tasked with systematically collecting and analyzing this information in order to provide the documentation needed to meet these requirements –
and more importantly, to make better decisions about what chemicals are being used in consumer products.
As such, industry suppliers are being barraged with requests from multiple sources asking for many of the same pieces of information. VPEPs were first developed in the mid 1990’s as a standardized form used to address these supply chain inquiries. As the form itself has evolved and its use has become more widely adopted, a systematic approach to managing them was needed. Thus, VPEPxchange was created.
